Today I sort of gambled and went to the back of Cache Creek – I'd caught a 10-pounder there in practice. I'd been fishing near Jared (Lintner) and a couple of the other guys who were up there (among the leaders) and I wanted to leave them alone. So I went down there, but I didn't catch them.

I just needed to figure out a way to catch a limit and I never did figure that out. Today I flipped them all up on a Brush Hog and on day 1 I caught three on a swimbait and one dropshotting.

If I could do it over again, I'd just get right in the middle of the crowds and fish with everybody else. I tried to get away from everybody and I ran around trying to find different stuff, but I never got them figured out.

It's pretty tough. I got four bites the first day, two bites the second day and then five bites today, so it's gotten a little better, but it's not easy yet for me.

I did catch a 10-pounder and a couple of 5s, so I know there's going to be some big bags. You don't catch small ones – they're all 3 to 5 pounds. It's just that it's hard to get five of them.

The water was 61 degrees when I pulled off today, so it ought to be good tomorrow. I think swimbaits and flipping will catch the big ones and the numbers will be caught finessing – dropshots and stuff like that. A guy might throw a swimbait and catch five good ones, but you might also get one.

I have a plan, but I don't know how good it is. I'll go back and forth between a swimbait and finesse and try to scratch out five.
