Miss. teen sentenced in slaying of Open angler

Shaun Brown pleaded guilty two weeks ago to a second-degree murder charge in Hinds County (Miss.) Circuit Court and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2013 shooting death of Bassmaster Opens angler James "Jimmy" Johnson.

According to a report today from WAPT-16 in Jackson, Miss., Brown, 19, entered his guilty plea on Nov. 16. He was originally charged with capital murder as a 17-year-old in connection with Johnson's death, which occurred in the parking lot of a Motel 6 in Jackson prior to the Bassmaster Central Open at Ross Barnett Reservoir. Johnson, of Boerne, Texas, was killed after he tried to confront Brown, who was burglarizing Johnson's boat.
