Angler dies after collision at Conroe

A 58-year-old Texas man died Saturday after his boat collided with another boat during a fishing tournament at Lake Conroe, according to a story in the Houston Chronicle.

Michael Wayne Conaway, of Magnolia, Texas, died shortly after authorities arrived on scene north of the FM 1097 bridge, said Capt. Rusty Fincher with the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office.

According to the Chronicle, the collision occurred about 7:50 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses said the two boats were headed toward each other, traveling up to 45 mph, Fincher said. Witnesses said the boaters seemed unsure which way to veer to avoid one another. Both boats remained afloat after the collision, but a large gash was visible in the side of Conway's boat.

The driver of the other boat was uninjured. The crash remains under investigation.
