Browne eyeing Monday release from hospital

Pro angler Glenn Browne underwent surgery on Wednesday in Florida as part of his fight against colorectal cancer.

The four-time FLW winner is still hospitalized at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, but hopes to be sent home on Monday. Browne said doctors are still awaiting test results to determine the next step in the treatment process.

“The hope is that this will cure it,” Browne said Friday. “The pathology will be the tell-tale.”

He’d already endured two months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment in advance of the surgery, which lasted three hours.

“I’m feeling pretty good, but I’m pretty sore,” he said. “Things are pretty tender. I’m still going to be down and out for quite a while.”

He expressed his appreciation of all the well wishes he’s received from friends and fishing buddies along the way.

“A lot of friends have been texting me and checking up on Facebook,” he said. “It’s been awesome.”
