The Bassmaster Elite Series will be heading to Cayuga Lake in Central New York next August, according to a report in the Auburn (N.Y.) Citizen newspaper on Wednesday.
The article states the tournament is slated for Aug. 22-25, 2019, which would put it immediately following the Elite Series tournament at the St. Lawrence River in Waddington, N.Y.
Bud Shattuck, the mayor of the village of Union Springs, N.Y., told the paper in an interview that B.A.S.S. officials had reached out to him about possible dates. Cayuga last hosted an Elite Series in 2016 when Kevin VanDam captured the win.
"We were hoping they'd come back," Shattuck said.
It's believed the Cayuga Lake tournament will replace one of the two West Coast tournaments that were canceled in response to anglers' complaints about travel expenses. A second replacement tournament has yet to be announced.
