Same angler, same fish: A Cayuga 9-pounder

On June 15, 2022, Thomas Russell caught a New York-record smallmouth in the Finger Lakes Open tournament at Cayuga Lake that weighed 8 pounds, 5.8 ounces. On Thursday, in the same event, he caught one that tipped the scales at more than 9 pounds. Both Thomas and the taxidermist who did the replica mount of the 2022 catch are certain it's the same fish.
