New scholarship honors late Purdue angler

New scholarship honors late Purdue angler

Purdue University angler Travis Ely was a fierce competitor, an aspiring marine engineer and a beloved member of his family and community. After his untimely accidental death while returning from a tournament in October, his parents, Brenda and Kevin, decided to honor his memory and the sport he loved by creating a scholarship fund.

“Fishing was his passion,” said Brenda. “And the fishing community showed a huge outpouring of love and support. We want to give back to that community by honoring and supporting a collegiate angler.”

One time or recurring donations can be made at through the Brown County Community Foundation by clicking here.

Alternatively, donations can also be made through a GoFundMe established by Casey Martin of White River Marine, where Travis worked an engineering co-op position and hoped to find employment after graduation from Purdue. For that, click here.

“We want to take this tragedy and turn it into something positive,” Martin explained. “He was one of those guys who was always in a good mood, always willing to help. He will be sadly missed by the tight-knit fishing community.”
