Stop us if you've heard this one before: Jacob Wheeler has finished another season atop the BassFan World Rankings.
It's a refrain that's played out for six-plus years now as the Tennessee angler continues his reign over the sport at the top level of competition. His win in the Bass Pro Tour season finale at Saginaw Bay, Mich., not only helped him sew up his fourth career Angler of the Year title, it allowed him to extend this lead in the World Rankings.
Trey McKinney, the 20-year-old Bassmaster Elite Series phenom, overtook Drew Gill for the No. 2 spot thanks to his win at Lake St. Clair in early August. Gill dropped to third, but still closed the BPT season with five straight top-5 finishes.
Jay Przekurat jumped one spot to fourth while Kyoya Fujita improved seven spots to fifth after closing the Elite Series season with a pair of top-10s. Chris Johnston, who captured his second straight Elite Series AOY title, moved up two spots to seventh.
