  Tim Horton and Chad Morgenthaler both announced they are retiring from competitive bass fishing. I believe unless you are rich or your sponsors foot the bill, we will see more walking away to other interests where they can actually earn a living!

  RE: Balog on guides' "property" – I feel the guide's pain. Most people don't understand the amount of time, work and gas it takes to locate bass sweet spots. I don't guide, but I have the same problem with hole-poachers. My "friends" and neighbors know I spend a lot of hours on the water and have figured out if they watch they can zero in on where I fish. Now they beat on it until the fish relocate or pass it on to their friends. I feel like the old prospector who digs for years to find the gold strike, only to have others come in and pick up the nuggets.

  RE: Fishing participation report: I am glad so many enjoy fishing, but participation at that pace is unsustainable. Many states do not fund the management of their fisheries to the level needed to support that level of fishing participation.
