Thanks to his 18th-place finish at the recent Okeechobee FLW Tour event, Jason Knapp of Uniontown, Pa. leads the BassFan Rookie of the Year (ROY) Race one event into the 2006 season.
Florida usually is tough for people not from Florida, so thus far Knapp has shown a spark. But can he keep it up? And can he follow in the shoes of Dave Wolak to be the second BassFan ROY from Pennsylvania?
The remaining five regular-season events will tell, as will the performance of his fellow rookies, notably Memphis, Tenn.'s Zack Bell. Bell finished 19th at Okeechobee and is less than a point out of 1st in the BassFan ROY race.
Charles Cummings of Leeds, Ala. is 3rd in the standings after a respectable 34th at Okeechobee. Fellow Alabaman Yancy Windham was the next highest-finishing rookie, in 60th, and is now 4th in the BassFan ROY Race.
The FLW Tour will have two more events – meaning three total, half of its season – before FLW Series and Bassmaster Elite Series rookies hit the water for the first time.
