Remitz Leads, Thrift Threatens

Derek Remitz stumbled a bit at last week's Guntersville Bassmaster Elite Series, and that opened the door for those beneath him to make up some ground. Remitz still leads the race, but look at Bryan Thrift, who finished 10th at the Norman FLW Tour. That finish – Thrift's second Top 10 of the season – moves him up from 4th to 2nd. Just as important, it narrows Remitz' lead from a previous 17.5 points to just 4.3 points.

> Casey Ashley, who was previously 2nd, drops to 3rd after a 70th-place finish at Guntersville.

Other significant movements include:

> Elite Series rookie James Niggemeyer's been wildly inconsistent so far, but does climb one spot to 9th.

> Matt Amedeo, also an Elite Series rookie, improves two spots to 10th after his 55th at Guntersville.

> A 187th at Norman drops Frank Meyer six spots to 15th.

About the ROY Race
The BassFan Rookie of the Year Race/Award recognizes the best rookie in all of tour-level professional fishing for the current year or season. Unlike the league rookie races, only true rookies are eligible: To qualify as a rookie for the BassFan race, a tour angler cannot have fished the pro (boater) side of any Bassmaster or FLW tour/series-level event before.

  • BassFan Rookie of the Year Race points are calculated using a methodology loosely similar to the BassFan World Rankings (points based on finish with bonuses given for winning and finishing high). Only regular-season events count. Championships do not.

  • The BassFan Rookie of the Year Race was created in 2002 as the first rookie race in professional bass fishing. Like Rookie of the Year awards in all sports, it recognizes top-performing newcomers to the professional ranks.
