After the Beaver FLW, Oklahoma's Harmon Davis moved up two places to 3rd in the BassFan.com Rookie of the Year Race. Significantly, he displaced two BASSMASTER Tour rookies who, because the BASSMASTER Tour has completed five tournaments already, have a one-tournament advantage.
The million-dollar question is whether Davis can catch the two top B.A.S.S. rookies: Frank Scalish -- who is No. 1 in the Rookie race and has a 132-point lead over Davis -- and Yusuke Miyazaki, who leads Davis by 65 points. The answer is that it's certainly possible, depending on how all of these anglers fish the final tournaments of the season.
The biggest factor here is that Scalish and Miyazaki have only one tournament left in which to cement their leads over Davis and the other FLW rookies, notably Virginia's John Crews, Arkansas' Adam Wright and Maryland's J.T. Kenney. But the FLW rookies have two tournaments and the luxury of seeing how the B.A.S.S. guys finish.
Unless Scalish puts it away with a high finish at Eufaula, the outcome of the BassFan.com Rookie of the Year Race will likely hinge on the last tournament of the season.
Note: Though Florida's Mark Rogers finished 20th in the Beaver FLW, his ranking doesn't change because he didn't fish well in the first three tournaments: before Beaver, he only had 13 points total.
