Remitz Extends Lead

So far, Alabama BASS rookie Derek Remitz has led each week of the BassFan Rookie of the Year Race. After two tour-level events last week – the Clear Lake Bassmaster Elite Series and the Ft. Loudoun–Tellico FLW Tour – he leads by a little more.

Remitz led the Rookie Race by 15 points last week. His 75th-place finish at Clear Lake was nothing compared to his win at Amistad and his 2nd at the California Delta, but when the dust settled, he extended his Rookie Race lead to 17 points.

FLW Tour rookie Bryan Thrift retained his 2nd-place spot this week with a 57th at Loudoun–Tellico.

BASS rookie Casey Ashley, who finished 13th at Clear Lake, moved up five spots to 3rd. He trails Remitz by 21 points.

Other significant movements include:

> Glenn Delong up five spots to a tie for 6th after a 12th at Clear Lake.

> Jason Williamson up seven spots to 8th after a 13th at Clear Lake.

> Craig Dowling down 12 spots to 15th after a 178th at Loudoun–Tellico.

About the ROY Race
The BassFan Rookie of the Year Race/Award recognizes the best rookie in all of tour-level professional fishing for the current year or season. Unlike the league rookie races, only true rookies are eligible: To qualify as a rookie for the BassFan race, a tour angler cannot have fished the pro (boater) side of any Bassmaster or FLW tour/series-level event before.

  • BassFan Rookie of the Year Race points are calculated using a methodology loosely similar to the BassFan World Rankings (points based on finish with bonuses given for winning and finishing high). Only regular-season events count. Championships do not.

  • The BassFan Rookie of the Year Race was created in 2002 as the first rookie race in professional bass fishing. Like Rookie of the Year awards in all sports, it recognizes top-performing newcomers to the professional ranks.
