BassFan Warren Wolk thought it was pretty cool when he caught a largemouth bass with distinct black markings from Manor Lake (a 1,000-acre impoundment near Morrisville, Pa.). He shared photos of the fish on his Facebook group, "Warren's Fishing Buddies," and discovered that three other members of the group had caught and photographed the same bass over a 2 1/2-year period.
The photos are in chronological order running clockwise from top left: Jim Harvey (December 2013), Bridget Allen (June 2015), Cody Duff (August 2015) and Wolk (March 2016)
"Aside from this being a testament for the effectiveness of catch-and-release practices, perhaps even more notable is the evolution of the much talked about but oftentimes sketchy facts on the black markings, which from my experience have gotten more and more common in my region in the 40 years that I've been chasing bass," Wolk said. "If you examine the fish in chronological order, you'll see both growth and disappearance of the black markings over 2 1/2 years."
