The team of Keith and Nate Cowan, who've partipated in every Ike's Pro-Am Bass Tournament to date, recently got their first win in the event by catching a 22.64-pound bag in the 8th annual edition at the Chesapeake Bay.
The Cowan brothers took home a Bass Cat Bobcat with a Yamaha motor as well as lots of other prizesdonated by sponsors of The Ike Foundation. Those sponsors include Pro-Guide Batteries, Flambeau, Berkley, Mystery Tackle Box, The Bass University, Lowrance, Rod Warrior, Tackle Warehouse, AFTCO, T-H Marine, Power-Pole, Nines, Rapala and Rod Warrior.
The tournament drew more than 100 teams. Here's a look at how the Top 6 finished:
1. Keith and Nate Cowan - 22.64
2. Terry Roberson and Dan Downer - 21.63
3. Chris Smith and Eric Boehm - 21.24
4. Bob Austin and Jim Clacher - 19.94
5. Vic Auriemma and Logan Kuhrmann - 19.77
6. Jay and Josh Burger - 19.45
Big bass: Nick Lepone and Teimuraz Balachvili - 6.02
While the Pro-Am was taking place, The Ike Foundation hosted the Free Family Fun Fest across the park along the banks of the Chesapeake. Thirty-plus volunteers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland came to hand out Abu Garcia rods and reels and Flambeau tackle boxes and work with kids on fishing skills. Catches of the day included a variety of species like bass, perch, bluegill catfish and carp.
Each child at the event went home with anew rod and reel, a Flambeau tackle box, and a bag of fishing goodies. Many of the kids were introduced to fishing for the first time that day and the hope is that they left with a newfound interest in the sport.
