Daughter's diagnosis takes Sonar out of Opens

Miles "Sonar" Burghoff, a pro angler and longtime BassFan columnist, has dropped out of this year's Bassmaster Opens after finding out this week that his 10-month-old daughter, Rylee, has cancer.

The Tennessee resident was in Florida practicing for the first Open of 2024 at Lake Okeechobee when he received the devastating news. The cancerous mass is near Riley's stomach and kidneys and is the approximate size of a baseball.

"I rushed home and the last couple of days have just been a huge nightmare," he said. "We've just been going from one appointment to the next."

He and wife Katie will soon relocate from Dayton, Tenn. to Memphis so that Rylee can begin treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

He detailed his family's situation in a YouTube video that he posted to his channel today (it's embedded below). A GoFundMe account has been set up and can be accessed by clicking here.
