Sometimes the best recipes develop from a proven one – they're just spiced up with a little extra flavor. Zoom, long known as a master chef in the bass-fishing bait business, stirred the pot again. It added a little pizzazz and a pinch of creativity to a traditional recipe and cooked up a great new product called the Super Hog. Fused from the stellar Brush Hog and the Super Chunk, this bait will absolutely raise the bait bar once again.
The solid body makes rigging simple and the bait's durable – up to a 5/0 hook works well. Standard Brush Hog stabilizing wings and the Super Chunk legs allow this bait to be fished in a variety of ways. It's perfect for flipping and pitching, and it also slides and glides when fished on a Carolina Rig. This erratic action in not typical in other baits we've seen on a 'rig.
Because it's only 4 inches long and more compact than the Brush Hog, it hits even the most tight-lipped bass where it hurts. We've also fished it on light line and a leadhead with spinning gear. Killer. Our bet is it'll be an awesome smallmouth bait.
Another great deal is to customize the wings by actually splitting them away from the body on the bottom of the bait, then removing 3/4 of an inch from the head to make a great jig trailer. This compact package should also be a great smallie killer.
The Super Chunk portion of the bait can also be customized by splitting it on one or both of the joints between the legs of the bait. Break one and a subtle presentation occurs. Break two and the legs come alive. And it comes in the great lineup of Zoom colors.
The Super Hog is especially effective in heavy, brushy cover and may actually fish better than the Brush Hog in this application, since the Super Chunk portion doesn't wrap around branches and twigs. Heavy weights up to 1 ounce don't seem to affect the action.
Take something great and make it better – that's the Super Hog.
