Japanese FLW Tour rookie Shinichi Fukae is a fishing powerhouse in his home country, and so far is the same here. After last week's Kentucky Lake FLW Tour event, where he finished 5th, he's leading the FLW points race and also has a commanding 26-point lead in the cross-tour BassFan Rookie of the Year Race.
It's one tournament too early to call the ball, but it looks like Fukae will be the first non-American and first FLW Tour winner of the BassFan Rookie Race, making him the best true rookie in bass fishing.
Former Oklahoman and current Arkansan Ray Scheide remains in 2nd, and Florida's Glenn Browne stays in 3rd. But after a 12th at Kentucky Lake, Ohio's Dennis Magoto jumps up six places into 4th.
Virginia's Jacob Powroznik falls one place to 5th, and the rest of the Top 10 stay the same except for 10th: Alabama's Jimmy Mason moves up one spot to 10th thanks to poor finishes by FLW Tour rookies.
Since the cross-tour BassFan Rookie of the Year Race only covers the regular season, only one event is left: next month's Lake Champlain FLW.
