With half the Bassmaster Tour season already over, the number of anglers who have a shot at winning the BassFan Rookie of the Year Race from that tour is rapidly diminishing. Right now the guy with the best shot is Pennsylvania's Dave Wolak, who just finished 39th at last week's Guntersville Bassmaster and is now 3rd in the ROY Race.
But for the time being, there's no beating Bobby Lane's two Top 10s. The question is whether Lane, an FLW Tour rookie, can keep his momentum going outside of Florida. We'll find out in a couple of weeks.
The only other notable movement after last week's event involves the guys tied for 7th in the ROY Race: Florida's Preston Clark, and Mississippi's Jesse Draime. They move up three and six slots, respectively, after decent finishes (a 20th for Draime) at Guntersville.
(PLEASE NOTE: Richard Bennett of Roseville, Calif. was incorrectly listed as an FLW Tour rookie this year. He is the same person as RJ Bennett, who was a Bassmaster Tour rookie in 2004. He has been removed from the 2005 ROY standings, and the remaining rookies have been re-sorted accordingly. Any discrepancy between the text above and the standings below is due to this re-sorting.)
